The need for a healthy eating policy

Healthy eating is essential for good health and wellbeing. As well as helping maintain a healthy weight, making good food choices can also reduce the chances of developing a number of illness and conditions, such as obesity, coronary heart disease, diabetes, some forms of cancer and osteoporosis.

The workplace is an important setting in which people can increase their intake of healthy foods to benefit their health and protect against illness. A healthy, balanced diet also helps people to recover more quickly from illness and contributes to good mental health, resulting in improved levels of concentration, mental alertness and ability to cope with everyday stresses and strains.

This document outlines Security Foiling’s healthy eating policy.

Aim of the policy

  • to support and encourage employees to make healthy food choices and learn more about nutrition
  • to create a workplace environment which encourages employees to incorporate healthy eating into their daily routine
  • to ensure that the working environment promotes the health and wellbeing of employees, clients and visitors

  • organise a healthy eating week, with a range of organised activities
  • provide access to water in all meeting and training rooms

3. Enable employees to make healthy food choices.

  • review current provision of services
  • provide cool storage areas for lunchboxes and snacks
  • encourage employees to eat meals away from their desks
  • offer fruit instead of biscuits during meetings
  • provide access to drinking water

Communication

All employees of will be made aware of the healthy eating policy and the facilities available. The healthy eating policy will be included in the employee handbook and employee information or induction packs.

 

Review and monitoring

The policy will be reviewed six months from implementation and then annually after that.
